HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY, MALAYSIA!

Just reached home after getting stucked in the jam for like 2 hours for the Merdeka countdown at Ikano Powercentre. But i guess it's really worth the effort, the fireworks were awesome, the party was great and the people there were happening. Well, it's a really different way of celebrating Merdeka compared to how Malaysians celebrated it 50 years ago. But sigh, i'm extremely exhausted now. Will be updating this post really soon once i've got enough sleep. So for the time being, Happy Merdeka everyone!

.
And of course, Happy 50th Birthday to our beloved Malaysia! Here we go once again,

JUST FOR FUN.

I'm The Empress

Beauty, happiness, pleasure, success, luxury, dissipation.

The Empress is associated with Venus, the feminine planet, so it represents,
beauty, charm, pleasure, luxury, and delight. You may be good at home
decorating, art or anything to do with making things beautiful.

The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her.

STEAMBOAT ANYONE?

If you're steamboat craving, this will definitely be a post you're looking forward to. It's one of the most popular buffet steamboat restaurant you can find around PJ area. If you haven't made any bookings before heading to it, then queieing for a table there is a must. I guess those who stayed around the Sunway and PJ area would have known this place like a decades ago. But you know, not much people actually blog about it.

Therefore i hereby present to you, the forever-overpopulated Yuen Steamboat Buffet Restaurant.

It's quite easy to get to that place actually, strategically located beside the LDP expressway right before the Sunway's 3 tier bridge. To be more exact, it's behind the Sunway's Dominos Pizza outlet.

I will personally suggest you to give Mrs. Susie (owner of the restaurant, will provide you the number at the end of this post) a ring before you head to this place to avoid the long queue.

Eat all you can at Yuen's !

At Yuen's, they serve fruits, nyonya kueh and ice-creams for desserts. I'd say the desserts here are just okay, but hey! We're not here for the desserts right?

My verdict:

For a reasonable price of only RM18.80 per person, this buffet-styled steamboat restaurant offer diners with a huge varieties of fresh seafoods. I wouldn't say they provide the best steamboat in town but for such a reasonable price, i guess this place is defintely worth trying out. In fact, it's also a well known place to hang out with family members and friends.

I'M HAVING PBS.

I think i'm having PBS (Post Blogging Syndrome) again. Yeah, i mean AGAIN. This was one of the reason why my first blog got shutted down 2 years ago. It was a total failure, and i don't want it to happen again.

Sign and symptoms for PBS? Tired, getting lazier day by day, got pissed of with blogger often, out of ideas. Loads of them. Hoping to get back to myself soon, need some time to heal i guess. Well, it's not that serious actually, maybe i'm over exaggerating.

Just to update some of you guys, i've quited my job as a telemarketer. So, i guess i'll have more time to blog on the upcoming days. Can't wait to go back to studies after 3 months long of working. It was a really tiring and exhausting experience. Man, i still prefer studying after all.

To all my course mates, see you guys back on the 17th of Sept. Really missed those good ol' days where we studied and played hard together throughout the exams and yet managed to get into the degree courses we were aiming for.

Just some random pictures i managed to capture on my last trip back to Muar, Johor on 17/08/07.

DISTURBIA.

Sorry guys, haven been really updating my blog during the past few days. Anyway, here i'll be talking on abit on Disturbia, which i've just watched it not too long ago at GSC, 1U.

Not too bad for a thriller. This movie is seriously full of heart pumping and breath taking scenes. In fact, i feel it's better than most of the horror movies showing out there.

If you've watched Transformers, i guess you would have known that guy too. Shia LaBeouf, the main actor for Disturbia. His acting was okay and yeah, he was lucky too. It was Megan Fox at first, then Sarah Hoemer. 2 hawt chiqs in a year! Ahhhh.

That's Ronnie, the Korean guy. A real funny guy. Love the part where he faked his death to scare Kale (Shia LaBeouf). I can practically see my friend jumping up from the seat on this scene. Haha.

The psycho killer, Turner with Kale's mom. The climax of the movie pratically started after this screenshot, which is quite near to end of the movie already.

Well, it seems that the director made a mistake on the scene arrangement on this part. If you've watched the movie, try recalling the scene when Kale (Shia) forced his friend Ronnie to sneak into his neighbour's house cause Ronnie left his hand phone in Turner's car. So, Kale takes a look at the video after Ronnie's 'death' and he sees a woman's head, right. Not long later, Turner (the psycho killer) appears, and he takes the video away. The computer screen then goes blank and when Kale tried to escape in another scene, the video is back on the computer. Nope i never realised it untill Chia told me about it. What an observant movie critique. Haha.

Now, this is Ashley(Sarah)! The girl Kale managed to kissed at the end of the movie. Lucky huh?

Okay, if i were to rate this movie, in general it would be a B+. But if i am to rate it from the aspect that this is a thriller and the rate of my heartbeat, i'll give it an A. Not too bad if you wanna try something different during weekends. Guys, get your gfs with you if you really want to thrill them. Haha. You know what girls do when they are afraid of something rite? Haha.

Have a great weekend guys! I will be away for 2 days to Johor. =)

SOMETHING ON SIMPSONS.

Looks like its the Simpson's craze now. Everyone's talking about it, bloggers have simpsonized themselves, posters and figurines were seen everywhere around shopping complexes. Well, of course i won't want to be left out in this craze. However, you won't be seeing a simpsonized me, neither will i write a review or spoiler for the movie in this post.
.
Hmm. I'll be presenting you guys a NEWS. Haha. WHAT!? A NEWS ON SIMPSONS!? Just read on. Heh.
.
.

HOMER STOLEN.

The Simpsons, minus Homer, on display at the Golden Screen Cinema in 1 Utama shopping complex.

PETALING JAYA: A reward of RM1,000 has been offered for the "safe" return of the life-sized statue of Homer Simpson, which was stolen on Monday.

The suspects caught on CCTV cameras removing Homer from the cineplex premises. The reward is offered by movie studio Twentieth Century Fox, which is scheduled to release The Simpsons movie in Malaysia next month. The statue was stolen from the Golden Screen Cinemas at the 1 Utama Shopping Complex here at 3am. The theft was recorded on closed-circuit television cameras.Motion Picture Association country manager Nor Hayati Yahaya appealed for the return of Homer, saying that the Simpsons family was due to be displayed at Malaysia Consumers Day 2007 next month.

The suspects caught on CCTV cameras removing Homer from the cineplex premises.

"There is an estimated five million Simpsons fans in Malaysia," she said. The statue was stolen after the late night movie screening ended about 3am. The 1.2-metre tall Homer statue was placed alongside other Simpsons statues at a display couch. CCTV images provided by the shopping complex show two men carrying Homer out of the building. Another TV grab shows the statue in the boot of a Proton Waja. Two police reports were lodged over the incident. District police chief ACP Mazlan Mansor confirmed the reports. He said investigations were under way to track down the culprits. The Simpsons is an animated American sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. It is a satirical parody of the "Middle American" lifestyle epitomised by its title family, which consists of Homer, wife Marge, son Bart, daughter Lisa and baby daughter Maggie. The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and lampoons many aspects of the human condition, as well as American culture, society as a whole and television itself .The Simpsons is currently the longest-running American sitcom and the longest-running American animated programme. Since its debut on Dec 17, 1989, the show has aired 400 episodes over 18 seasons. The 19th season is due to be aired in 2007/2008.

--

Who in the world will want to steal a huge statue from the cinema man? Well, i guess this is Malaysia and weird people do exist. Sigh.

--

So, what's the fate of the lost Homer? Don't you remember that Malaysia's police are efficient? Well, in this case i mean they are REALLY efficient.

One day later..

POLICE RECOVER STOLEN HOMER.

Homer is back with his family.

PETALING JAYA: It was two college students who "kidnapped" the life-size statue of Homer Simpson.

The two, and the statue, were traced to a house in Taman Tun Dr Ismail on Wednesday night, some 72 hours after it was stolen from the Golden Screen Cinemas at the 1 Utama shopping complex. The students, one of whom is the son of a prominent lawyer, had their statements recorded before they were released on police bail.Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mazlan Mansor said they had completed their investigations but declined to elaborate. The case has been classified as theft from a building which carries a maximum 10 years’ jail sentence and a fine, upon conviction.

It is learnt that the students, aged 21 and 22, were found after the registration number of their Proton Waja was captured by closed-circuit television cameras. Movie studio 20th Century Fox thanked the police for their quick action in tracing and recovering Homer. Motion Picture Association country manager Nor Hayati Yahaya congratulated the police. In Monday’s incident, two men were seen carrying the statue after the late-night movie screening ended about 3am. Following the incident, a reward of RM1,000 was offered for the return of the statue.

10 years jail for stealing a Homer from One Utama. A prominent lawyer's son. Sigh. But hey, at least Homer is back! Haha.

The Simpsons family reunited.

SAMSUNG SGH-D900i.

From candybar phones to the clamshells, Nokia to Motorola then to Sony Ericsson. Yeah, I've tried them out before. But finally, here comes my first slider, and also my first phone from Samsung - the SGH-D900i.

Ultra Edition 12.9.

Well, got it for quite a reasonable price. The whole package comes with an original stylish slider from FMG, a stereo headset, USB cable, 1GB Micro SD card, a few manuals and a software CD. As from the seller, this phone comes with an 18 months warranty coverage from any of the FMG outlets nationwide. Not bad huh.

One shiny looking dude.

The shiny metallic Samsung D900i is one of of the award winning Ultra series model introduced during mid 2007. The thickness is 12.9mm and it weights only 85 grams which is typical for modern day solutions, handset is positioned as “slim” and is part of Ultra Edition, this is fashion tribute.

Sliding it is smooth.

Function wise? A 3.15 Megapixel camera with Auto Focus and flash, 30 frame per seconds of high resolution video recording, FM radio, MP3 player etc. What more can you ask from a slim little gadget like this?

Now, this is slim. Only 12.9 mm.

Well, in fact what caught my attention the most is the design of the phone. It comes with a metallic silver metal front cover with a reflective 2.0" 256k colour TFT screen. With it's sliding function, it makes the phone looked more stylish and in a sense, more professional looking.

A hidden 3 megapixel camera.

I would say that i have totally no regrets of getting this good looking little dude. Hopefully (touch wood), nothing bad'll happen and i guess for a really long period of time, i won't be changing anymore phones. Heh.

.

To end this post, i would like to share with you guys a few pictures taken with this phone's camera. Looks good.

JUST ANOTHER SHORT STORY.

Went through my friendster bulletins today and found something really funny, just feel like sharing it with you guys. Anyway, that's what blogging is all about isn't it? Heh.

--

The story starts here.

IPOH - FOOD IN THE CITY

In this post, i'll introduce to you guys a few of the popular eateries you can find throughout Ipoh. Yeah, it's true that Ipoh is all about good food. Especially if you're chicken craving, the Ipoh beansprout chicken will definitely fullfil your desire.
.
.
#1 Restaurant Lou Wong

Perhaps this is the place to go for tauge Ipoh kuay teow. This corner shop is most famous for the steamed chicken and beansprout dishes that go with a bowl of piping hot kuay teow soup. Although there are a few stalls selling the same menu along the street, locals tend to make a beeline for this place. Lou Wong gets pretty busy from late evening onwards.

A unique way of serving drinks. They just throw this tray on your table and ask you to choose your drinks instead of taking down your orders.

In Ipoh, chicken must always come with beansprout. It seems that Ipoh produces one of the best beansprout in Malaysia due to their clean and nutritious water from the valley. In fact, this is also why Ipoh produces lots of leng luis. Haha.

.
#2 Cowan Street Beansprout Chicken and Hor Fun

If you're looking for the best "Nga Choi Kai" (Beansprout Chicken) in town, this is the place you're looking for. Personally, i feel Cowan Street serves better beansprout chicken than the overpopulated "Lou Wong". They serve tender and juicy chicken with fat and crunchy beansprout which you will eat along with their famous "hor fun", which looks more like the Kuey Teow here in KL.

#3 Restaurant Foh San

The ever famous Foh San is really for the early risers. This is a favourite haunt for the older folks - after their morning exercises and in for a cup of tea and an array of no frills, scrumptious dim sum to start the day. It's no surprise therefore, that getting a seat is difficult. After getting yourself a table, you may have to fight to get noticed as the waitresses are often too busy to entertain.

A huge varieties of local made Dim Sum to choose from.
.
.

#4 Kedai Kopi Thean Chun (Old Town)

The coffeshop have a whole range of stalls selling all types of hawker food. The shop is always crowded but turnover is also high, so getting a table is not a problem, after a short wait. It is opened daily from 7am to 4pm. The favourite here is the har (prawn) mee, reputed to be the best in town. the chee cheong fun is also a must try. Although it is also known for its satay, the standard has dropped a bit as the old operator has retired and the stall is now managed by new tenant. The egg custard is also popular and sold off if you are a bit late.

Almost gone. The rojak, hor fun, popiah, beansprout and chee cheong fun, which is a must try!

If you have difficulty locating this kopi tiam (coffee shop), it's the one that has its walls lined with large old mirrors.
.
.
.

#5 Tong Sui Kai (Dessert street)

If you're looking for a taste of local desserts, then this is the place to be. It also serves 'Tong Sui' that will be able to soothe parched throats. " You name it, we make it! " is their tagline.

The crowds. Not easy to get a seat here.

White fungus boiled with gingko nuts.

"Char Tan" (Tea Egg?) and "Zha Kor Ping" (Shaved ice with ssorted fruits).

.

Ipoh's food is famous, and comparable to that from Penang. Many people, some from as far as Singapore, actually travel to this city just to taste its variety of great food. There are numerous dishes worthy of gluttons but visitors to Ipoh should make it a point to taste the local fare. Chances are the cuisine here is more varied and likely to be tastier than many other places in Malaysia.
